Two resolutions against the Iraq War were passed. First, on January 7, 2005, the California Federation of Teachers Executive Council passed a resolution based on labor council resolutions in Alameda and South Bay. The resolution is to "end the war and protest our troops and veterans." Second,
College and high school students have also been active against the war. On December 4, 2004, a citywide student march and rally was initiated by the Boston Student Mobilization to End the War.
In San Francisco, hundreds of students from Lowell High School gathered to protest the war and the possibility of the draft being reinstated (San Francisco Examiner, October 21, 2004). Michael Hoffman, a 1997 graduate of Emmaus High School, returned to the school on December 17, 2004, to speak out against the war in Iraq. The 25-year old Marine veteran is a co-founder of Iraq Veterans Against the War, a 6-month-old organization that claims 150 members, including some still on duty in Iraq. IVAW "wants the immediate withdrawal of all occupation forces from Iraq, 'real' reconstruction aid for that country and properly funded and administered veterans' benefits" (www.uruknet.info/?s1=2&p=8200& s2=18).
Educators to Stop the War held a conference on Saturday, March 5, 2005, in New York City. "We are a group of K through graduate school unionists, educators, students, and activists who oppose the war in Iraq and want to gather our forces to build a stronger, more confident anti-war movement, and to challenge the war in many venues: our unions, our schools and colleges, our classrooms and the streets."
