Very Tasteful Plastic

New polymer comes in many flavors.

More
Awhile ago we heard about this University of Wisconsin student named Corey Capasso who patented a technology to add flavor to plastic.

We hated to shatter the lad’s dream but we just had to send him an e-mail: "Dude, you're too late. We’ve been eating flavored plastic for years at our local pizza place, Luigi’s."

Strangely, Capasso ignored our advice and went ahead with his business anyway.

His company is Add the Flavor and his product is called PolyFlav. It can be made to taste like practically anything: banana, lemon, spearmint. And the applications are equally extensive. Capasso envisions PolyFlav drink straws, toothbrushes, tongue depressors and water bottles. Even a PolyFlav pacifier.

He claims he's already had some serious interest from major manufacturers and expects to hit $1 million in sales by mid-2009.

In case you’re wondering about health implications, Capasso assures that his plastic was developed with help from a world-famous professor of polymer engineering and is perfectly safe to put in your mouth.

This is good news. As soon as we finish this blog we're dashing off an e-mail to Luigi: "Give Capasso a call. Ask if PolyFlav comes in pepperoni. It has to be better than your pizza."
