When that happens, we need to take the time to actually thank them for helping us, and there’s no better way to do that than with a personal note of appreciation. And here’s a few tips to help you deliver it sincerely:

-Don’t Include a Sales Pitch.

The first thing is, you need to be sincere. You’re thanking somebody, so don’t turn it into a sales speech or a spiel to accept another offer. Just thank them for what it is that they did for you.

Be specific. If they helped you with a referral, name the referral. If they helped you with a particular aspect of your business, recognize it. Be sure that they know exactly what it is that you’re thanking them for. Be personal. Make it handwritten.

It’s far more personal than having it typed, which extends over to the envelope—hand write the address. Actually lick and put the stamp on the envelope yourself.
