Small and Independent Pharmaceutical Distributors Build Advocacy Organization
Every business owner needs to be involved with an orgranization that provides an opportunity for their voice to be heard on governmental issues impacting their businesses. The NCPD provides that for small and independent pharmaceutical distributors.
Recently, I had the opportunity to keynote at a conference for small business owners just like us involved in the healthcare industry. These business owners struggle with many of the same issues all of us deal with, but their situations are further complicated by actually being caught in the middle of an industry in turmoil which is dominated by the "big buys."
That's where the NCPD steps in. The conference at which I spoke was the 4th Annual NCPD Networking Event. NCPD stands for National Coalition of Pharmaceutical Distributors and its members are small and independent pharmaceutical distributors. Karen Moody, founder of Atlantic Biologicals Corp., is the three- year-old organizations' president. I met Karen earlier in the year at another event where I was speaking, and she tracked me down to invite me to speak at her event.
I really didn't know what to expect. But what I learned is the important role the NCPD performs in representing and promoting the value of small and independent pharmaceutical distributors with respect to legislatures, regulatory organizations, manufacturers, dispensers, and the community at large through rigorous advocacy in order to preserve the businesses of its members, to ensure distribution system efficiencey and to uphold public safety.
Regardless of what industry you are in, as a small business you need to be involved with an organization such as the NCPD which gives you a unified voice. For general business issues check out the NFIB and WIPP, both organizations advocate for small business owners and their issues, and you as a member in these types of groups you can have a voice and make a difference.
