Kohl's Plans Ahead

Thursday, May 1 2008

At its annual shareholders meeting yesterday, Kohl's top dogs outlined initiatives designed to help the retailer weather the current difficult economic environment and deliver profitability over the long term.

Part 1 of the plan involves the introduction of new brands. For instance, next year, Kohl's will become the exclusive U. S. retailer for Dana Buchman women's apparel, intimates, accessories and footwear.

Next, Kohl's will work on improving inventory management. And, the design of Kohl's stores continues to evolve. Features at newer stores include glass storefront entrances, updated cash wraps and fitting rooms as well as redesigned deparments for Juniors, Jewelry and Intimates.

Like more and more retailers, Kohl's is working to become environmentally responsible by maximizing energy efficiency, minimizing waste and reducing climate-damaging emissions.

There's more, but the point is this: Success doesn't come without planning. If you haven't had a planning session lately, there's no time like the present.
