The impact on home video retail of Oscar-nominated titles before and after the event was mixed, retailers said.

Two nominated titles--Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Finding Nemo--experienced strong sales at retail well before their nominations. Lost in Translation and Seabiscuit enjoyed moderate sales bumps following their nominations, according to retailers.

"Lost in Translation did well for us, but it is hard to tell if that was because of the Oscar show hype or that it had just come out," said Best Buy spokesperson Brian Lucas.
