Since moving to a very eco-friendly college town north of Seattle, I've seen all sorts of businesses offering specials gearing up to Earth Day tomorrow.
Bellingham, WA is sometimes referred to as "Berkeley North" - many environmentally conscious folks live here.
Today, there is a section of the Bellingham Herald aptly called, ECO, which is bigger than the entire paper - a whopping 32 pages encouraging people to reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink. For literally dozens of ideas, stories, and resources on how businesses and individuals can make gains toward a healthier environment, check ECO out here.
Even my favorite paper supply store got into the action - it just goes to show that anyone can promote business with a cause - I can get 20% off all paper and envelopes at Paper Zone through tomorrow. It seems to me that buying more paper and celebrating the environment are somewhat mutually exclusive, but since I need some envelopes, I printed it out and will go buy some.
Finally, I'm seeing many businesses do a take off of what grocery stores are doing - creating cool re-usable bags with their company logos on them. Pacific Bag here in the Northwest is one of those suppliers who can customize them for you. Why let Whole Foods and Trader Joe's get all the promotion? Put your OWN company logo on there and give them to your employees, customers, and prospective ones.
What other ideas does your business have for Earth Day and beyond?
