Kroger sells Detroit store to independent operator.(News)

Three years after opening a store in Detroit on Gratiot Avenue, Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. is turning over its 54,000-square-foot store at the Shops at Northeast Village to local businessman Mike Koza.

Koza is buying the inventory and fixtures from Kroger and has bought the store from Southfield-based First Commercial Realty & Development Co. Purchase prices were not disclosed.

Koza, a local developer and video store operator, made an unsolicited bid for the store and will reopen it as Mike's Fresh Market Inc.
