"Why do you eat acorns?" the mother in the back of the audience asked. I had briefly explained that I collect acorns every year, and regularly eat them. My lecture at this Los Angeles County public library was mainly directed to the hundred or so children sitting on mats on the floor. I explained that I have long been interested in the natural foods of the world, the foods that people ate before agriculture was the rule of the day.
