FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 23, 1998--
Company Adds Thrifty Brand Dog and Cat Foods to Product Line. New "Clip-Strip" Pet Food Program Inaugurated.
InnoPet Brands Corp. (OTC BB INBC) announced today that it has been named an authorized vendor by McLane Company, Inc., a nationwide distributor of grocery products to convenience stores and other retailers. The Company will market InnoPet Veterinarian Formula(R) Pet Foods, as well as Thrifty brand value-level dog and cat foods, through the approximately 30,000 retailers served by McLane.
McLane Company, Inc., headquartered in Temple, Texas is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT), which supplies, in addition to small retailers, Wal-Mart Discount Stores, Supercenters and Sam's Clubs. The company is organized into fifteen divisions with nineteen distribution centers.
By arrangement with Sunshine Mills of Red Bay, Alabama, the nation's ninth largest pet food manufacturer, the Company will offer Thrifty brand dog and cat foods, in traditional bulk packaging, through McLane.
"The relationship with McLane represents a major addition to InnoPet Brands' distribution system," said Marc Duke, Chairman and CEO of InnoPet Brands. "Both geographically and demographically, it expands our consumer reach exponentially."
"The inclusion of the Thrifty brand adds a major dimension to our product offerings. Thrifty is just that: a value brand with excellent nutritional characteristics for its price level," Mr. Duke continued. "The product has been sold only in supermarkets to date. We are expanding its distribution into the small store arena."
InnoPet Brands has been working with regional divisions of McLane to develop tailored retail programs that make display and sale of the Company's pet foods serve the small grocery environment.
"We have designed a "clip-strip" program for our InnoPet Veterinarian Formula line, which enables shoppers in McLane served outlets to purchase one, or a few, days' supply of food for their dogs or cats," commented Mr.Duke. "This, to our knowledge, is the first time a pet food will be offered in single-serve portions through small grocers and convenience store retail outlets. Our unique Nutri-Fresh(TM) packaging system makes this possible. Of course, larger bags of InnoPet Veterinarian Formula will also be available."
Founded in 1996, InnoPet Brands Corp. produces, markets and sells premium lifestage pet foods, under the name InnoPet Veterinarian Formula through, supermarket and grocery outlets mainly through the East Coast and Southern United States.
