During fiscal year 2008, Best Buy -- retailer of consumer electronics and appliances -- collected 43,672 tons of old electronics and appliances.
The retailer places free recycling kiosks for cell phones, rechargeable batteries and ink-jet cartridges inside its stores. Now Best Buy has expanded those kiosks to accept CDs, DVDs, PDAs and smart phones.
The company expanded recycling opportunities for the communities in which it operates by serving as a partner in 90 recycling events during fiscal 2008, collecting 1,725 tons of electronic waste.
That's a lot of tons of waste that would have gone -- where? -- without this program.
