Inc. today announced it has signed a lease agreement with Fulcrum Capital Corp., to open a 30,000-square-foot Borders Books Music & Cafe(R) store this year at 2030 Douglas Blvd., in Roseville, Calif.
According to Patty Kerr, director of marketing for Borders, the store will offer an inventory
The new store is expected to open spring 1996, and will be one of 17 Borders stores in California. Others are located in Mission Viejo, Santa Monica, Thousand Oaks, Torrance, West Hollywood, Westwood, Emeryville, Milpitas, San Francisco, San Rafael and Santa Barbara. Also, stores will soon be opening in Brea, Palo Alto, San Diego, Escondido and Mount Clair.
In addition to its vast selection, the new Roseville store will host many special events including author appearances and book signings, live music performances, children's events and other activities. Each Borders store employs a local community relations coordinator whose sole responsibility is to assure that the store reflects the interests of the community.
Borders plans to hire more than 50 employees to staff the store. As the grand opening date approaches, the company will seek educated, knowledgeable book and music lovers to fill these positions. In fact, Borders gives a quiz to each prospective associate to assess their knowledge of books and music. To inquire about possible employment opportunities, Borders has established a national hiring hot line. The hot line provides information on job openings at new stores and at the corporate level. Interested candidates should call 1-800-999-READ.
"We have a national reputation for having extremely knowledgeable and prepared employees," Kerr said. "Our customers want someone to help them find exactly what they're looking for, not just someone to ring up the sale. We find that people who truly love books and music are the best fit for us and our customers."
