Gucci Group has signed a lease to move its city flagship to an acre-size space in New York's Trump Tower, according to the New York Post. The Post reported that the Italian luxury retailer beat out Armani and Ralph Lauren for the space on the northeast corner of 56th Street and Fifth Avenue. Gucci, which will move from its current location on Fifth Avenue at 54th Street in 2008, plans to make substantial renovations in Trump Tower to spaces formerly occupied by the British jeweler Asprey and Avon. The 45,000-sq.-ft. store will feature a four-story façade and three selling floors, compared to five at its current location. A spokesperson did not disclose what architectural style the new shop will feature or if Gucci would sell the building it is in currently. It will be Gucci's largest store in the world.
