H&M to Debut in Japan

Stockholm, Sweden-based H & M Hennes & Mauritz AB, an international brand that offers fashion-forward clothing at low prices, announced plans to move into the Japanese market. H&M has signed a contract for its first store in Japan, which will be located in one of Tokyo's prime shopping districts,

Harajuku. The building, which is under construction, is expected to open in Fall 2008, and H&M is currently negotiating for other contracts in Tokyo. "Japan is an exciting market for H&M with fashion-conscious consumers with great spending power," said Rolf Eriksen, CEO of H&M. "With a population of 128 million, of which almost 13 million in Tokyo, we see great opportunities for expansion in this part of the world." The fast-fashion retailer has about 1,300 stores in 24 countries.
