Federated Department Stores Inc., Cincinnati, has sold the 180-year-old department store chain, Lord & Taylor, to NRDC Equity Partnership for $1.195 billion. Included in the sale are 48 stores in the Northeast, Midwest and Virginia, and a distribution center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. NRDC Partners plans

to keep the 600,000-sq.-ft. flagship located on Fifth Avenue in New York in tact, according to The New York Times. "I'm not sure we want to operate Lord & Taylor without a Fifth Avenue location," said NRDC president Mr. Baker to The Times.
