Design Plans Move Forward At Dubai's New Retail Resort

Festival Centre, a 2.6-million-sq.-ft. urban retail resort in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will use Toronto-based design firm Watt International to realize its design vision. Part of the mixed-use development called "Dubai Festival City," Festival Centre includes retail tenants such as IKEA, Marks & Spencer and Toys "R" Us. Watt will provide design consulting on each tenant and provide direction on specific design issues. Watt's managing director for retail, Colin Beaton, said in a statement: "Festival Centre is one of the most progressive and sophisticated retail projects in the world, not only is the architectural design innovative and leading edge, but also its approach to ensuring that tenants' store designs are world class." Dubai Festival City is a privately-funded, mixed-use real estate development that is 1,600 acres and includes retail, hotels, residential, an 18 hole golf course, schools, commercial office space and a corniche.
