November sales round-up

Comparable-store sales rose 1.7 percent overall during the month of November, with luxury retailers showing the strongest performance, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) survey of 70 retailers. Most other retail sectors showed weak performance, with the ICSC saying November

had the weakest results since August. The ICSC also lowered its overall holiday sales forecast to from 2.5 to 3 percent, down from 3 percent to 4 percent. Below is a summary of the November financial results for some of the major U.S. retailers, in descending order from best to worst. Percentages reflect changes from November 2003 comparable store sales.

American Eagle Outfitters: Up 24.3 percent
bebe stores inc.: Up 23.2 percent
Gadzooks Inc.: Up 13 percent
Walgreen Co.: Up 11.4 percent
The Neiman Marcus Group Inc.: Up 8.4 percent
Target Corp.: Up 3.2 percent
Wal-Mart Stores: Up 0.3 percent
Federated Department Stores Inc.: Down 1.4 percent
May Department Stores Co.: Down 7.9 percent
The Gymboree Corp.: Down 10 percent
