Starbucks to expand U.S. stores by 15,000

According to Bloomberg News, Starbucks Corp., Seattle, increased its expansion plans to 15,000 locations, a 50 percent hike. The company plans to put more units in small towns, inside other retailers and near its current locations. Jim Donald, promoted to president and CEO Tuesday, is leading the expansion

and eventually plans to open 30,000 stores worldwide. Howard Schultz, company chairman, said in a recent meeting that 1,500 of the 30,000 should open next year.
