Carrefour owner requests changes to Thailand's zoning laws

According to NAMNEWS, an executive from Carrefour, a discount hypermarket chain, visited with the Prime Minister of Thailand on behalf of the owner recently asking him to change Thailand's zoning laws, which the owner feels are unfair to discount stores. The current laws prohibit discount stores from

building branches within 15 kilometers from a town, but Carrefour's main competitors have already built and opened stores within this boundary. Since the Prime Minister wants laws to be fair for all retail companies, he agreed to consider the issue.
