Friedman's misses annual report filing deadline

Friedman's Inc., the Savannah, Ga.-based retail jewelry chain whose accounting is under investigation by federal authorities, has delayed filing its fiscal 2003 annual report and is in default over some terms of its credit agreement. The company says the report for the year ended Sept. 27, which was

due Monday, will be filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by the end of February after it resolves some issues with its lenders. The SEC and the Justice Department are investigating to determine whether the company issued false financial statements, Friedman's said last month.
