Two retail legends honored

Burt Tansky, CEO of Dallas-based The Neiman Marcus Group Inc., and Philip Miller, former chairman of New York-based Saks Fifth Avenue, will both be decorated with the Legion of Honor during Paris Fashion Week. The joint ceremony, which will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the Louvre museum in Paris, will be presided by Nicole Fontaine, France's minister of industry. The ceremony has created quite a buzz in the industry, as the two retailers chose to receive their honor together rather than in separate ceremonies. "It's only in America where you can be friends and competitors," says Didier Grumbach, president of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture who presented Bloomingdale's Kal Ruttenstein with his Legion of Honor last summer. "It's very unusual. They chose to be together. They felt it would be better for the two of them. It's a very strong message and I love it."
