7-Eleven to open 500 stores in Beijing

Dallas-based 7-Eleven Inc., the world's largest convenience-store chain, has selected Taiwan's President Chain Store Corp. and Seven-Eleven Japan Corp. Ltd. to open up to 500 new stores in Beijing. The two companies are the biggest operators of 7-Eleven stores outside the United states, and will most

likely open the first Beijing stores in early 2003, said Bob Jenkins, international vice president, 7-Eleven Inc. "Easily we could go up to 500 stores in five years," Jenkins said at the opening of the company's 100th China store. The plan awaits approval from the city and state governments.
