THIS WEEK Kevon Edmonds is represented on the adult R&B airplay chart with two top 10 singles, "No Love (I'm Not Used To)" at No. 7 and "24/7" at No. 10. "24/7," a certified gold single, peaked at No. 1 for three weeks in November
and has been in the top 10 at adult R&B for 26 of the last 28 weeks.
Just back from a European tour with Puff Daddy, Carl Thomas hits the States this week by cracking the top 10 on both the adult R&B and mainstream R&B charts with "I Wish" (Bad Boy/Arista). As he does this week, Thomas has scored Greatest Gainer honors every week except one since debuting on those charts.
MUSICAL CHAIRS: Loud Records owner Steven Rifkin announced officially this week that Chris Lighty, CEO and founder of Violator Records, has joined Loud as executive VP. Lighty will also bring his Violator Records-already half-owned by Sony Music-to Loud.
Columbia moves national director of crossover promotion Lisa Ellis to Los Angeles and ups her to VP of national promotion. Ellis will continue to oversee rhythm/crossover promotion for Columbia.
NEW AND NEWSWORTHY: BillboardBulletin reports that the Outlawz have sued Death Row Records; its owner, Marion "Suge" Knight; and distributor Interscope Records, seeking damages in excess of $1 million. The group claims that the label interfered with the release, promotion, and sale of its project by postponing release of the album, forcing the group to sign over publishing rights to Knight's publishing company, and instructing Interscope not to promote the album.
Brilliant Digital Entertainment and Russell Simmons' 360hiphop.com Web site have teamed up to create the first studio dedicated to producing 3D and 2D hip-hop content for Internet and broadband distribution. The production studio will be based in L.A.
Boyz II Men have signed with Creative Artists Agency for worldwide representation in preparation for their September Universal/Motown release, "NateMikeShawnAndWan." A single is scheduled for June.
