Dolly Drops In On U.k. Tvl
Country figurehead Dolly Parton is in Britain to promote her Sugar Hill album "Little Sparrow," released here last month by Sanctuary. TV appearances include a prestigious spot on the BBC1 chat show "Parkinson" tomorrow (Feb. 17), on which she will perform two songs, including "I Will Always Love You."
Parton is also set for further small screen appearances Monday (Feb. 19) on "This Morning" and "Gloria Hunniford." "Little Sparrow" is at No. 13 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart this week.
Continuing U.K. interest in Parton has also prompted RCA to compile a new 22-track set, "Gold -- Greatest Hits," due out on Monday (Feb. 19). The album, to be TV-advertised with a #100,000 campaign across the first two weeks, includes her one solo British top-10 hit, 1976's "Jolene," and other such favorites as "9 To 5," "Love Is Like A Butterfly," and the aforementioned "I Will Always Love You." Her 1983 duet with Kenny Rogers, "Islands In The Stream," a No. 7 U.K. success, is notable by its absence.
