Brooks, Hill, 'n Sync Are People's Choices

While film and television stars were the main attraction at the People's Choice Awards, two country giants and a best-selling pop group were among those honored during the annual ceremony, held in Pasadena, Calif., last night (Jan. 7). Garth Brooks, who has been largely inactive over the last year, picked up the award for male musical performer. Crossover country diva Faith Hill grabbed the female musical performer award, while 'N Sync, who presented Brooks with his award, took home the People's Choice award for musical group or band. As the winners of the awards are determined by the public -- through a nationwide telephone poll conducted by the Gallup organization -- all of the celebrities took time to thank their fans, many of whom packed the upper balconies of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. "To you guys, I'm telling you something, I love doing this," Hill said to the screaming fans. "We have so much fun on the road, thank you so much for coming out. God bless you." Actor Mel Gibson walked away with two People's Choice awards -- motion picture star in a drama and motion picture actor -- for his work in "The Patriot." Julia Roberts, Drew Carey, and Bette Midler were among the other stars taking home honors.
