Keita, Papa Wemba Headline Africa Fete 1998

Malian artists Salif Keita & the Wanda Band, world pop act Papa Wemba & Molokai, Senegalese fusionist Cheikh Lô, and Somalian singer Maryam Mursal will headline Africa Fete 1998, a traveling tour of Franco-African culture, music, and food. Debuting in 1993, the annual outing had to

be aborted the past two years due to lack of funding; a grant from the Kennedy Center's "African Odyssey" has revitalized the program, making this year's tour of Canadian and U.S. cities possible. The 16-city jaunt commences in mid-June in California; the outing's happenings will be promoted on "Afropop Worldwide," the award-winning weekly public radio program broadcast across the U.S. and Europe.
