A critical favorite, Gomez's eponymous debut set won the U.K.'s coveted Mercury Prize, for best album of the year. The group's sophomore disc, "Liquid Skin" (Virgin), was released in September. It peaked at No. 30 on the Heatseekers chart.

In other tour news, '80s acts Styx and REO Speedwagon are pairing for a joint outing. The tour, which will begin April 13, will play mostly secondary markets, according to Styx manager Charlie Brusco. The Styx/REO package will also be available for fairs in fall 2000.
