Qvc Label Tunes In To Atlantic Deal

Q Records, the label started by TV shopping channel QVC, has inked a long-term marketing and distribution deal with the Atlantic Group. The label's first release, "Footloose -- The Original Broadway Cast Recording," will be in stores Tuesday. The second release, the four-CD "Live At Gilley's Volumes

1-4," will be out March 16. It consists of live country and rock performances by artists including Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Freddy Fender, Carl Perkins, Willie Nelson, Rita Coolidge, Steve Wariner, the Oak Ridge Boys, Loretta Lynn, Rosanne Cash, Mel Tillis, Johnny PayCheck, and Mickey Gilley. The tracks were cut in the early '80s at Gilley's Houston nightclub.

Q Records GM Alan Rubens says 14-16 albums will be released this year, including at least six of live solo performances recorded at Gilley's. Taking advantage of QVC's vast audience of eager shoppers, "certain" Q Records albums, including "Footloose" and "Live At Gilley's," will be sold on the network as well as at retail, according to a spokesperson.
