The Pearl Jam/Dismemberment Plan pairing will hit two major European festivals: the Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen on June 30, and the Werchter Festival in Brussels on July 2. Other bands already slated to perform at the Roskilde Festival include Oasis, Flaming Lips, the Cure, and Gomez.
The Dismemberment Plan is touring in support of its third Desoto album, "Emergency & I," which headed a number of critics' lists for top album of 1999. The album was originally recorded for release by Interscope and was previewed with the "The Ice Of Boston + 3" EP in late 1998. However, it was eventually released on Desoto last October after the band left Interscope in the wake of its merger with Universal.
Dismemberment Plan lead singer Travis Morrison says on the band's official Web site that he was shocked when Pearl Jam's management approached the band about touring. At first, he thought it might have been a prank.
"I was ready for the candid-camera moment the whole way through my initial conversation, but it never happened; and here we are," Morrison says, adding, "don't ask me how they know who we are. I have no idea."
Prior to joining Pearl Jam in Europe, the Dismemberment Plan will be on tour throughout the U.S. A new round of dates kicks off Friday (March 24) in Shippensburg, Pa., and concludes May 1 in Burlington, Vt. A single release for the new track "The Dismemberment Plan Gets Rich" is currently in the works.
