Photojournalist Alan Diaz wins first place in the Associated Press Managing Editors' breaking news photography category this year. Diaz won last year in the same category for his (now Pulitzer-winning) Elian photograph. This time, it is his shot of a judge inspecting the ballots with a magnifying glass
during the Florida election crisis that clinched his win. The awards are given by AP editors to their own shooters.
Top feature photography prize went to David Guttenfelder, whose story on reunions between separated North and South Korean families was also a Pulitzer finalist in feature photography this year.
In news photography, honorable mentions went to Guttenfelder, Jerome Delay, Enric Marti, Lefteris Pitarakis, Elizabeth Dalziel, Peter Dejong, Adel Hana, Jacqueline Larma, Laurent Rebours and Alexander Zemlianichenko for their work in the Middle East. Vadim Ghirda was honored for his image of Albanian refugees in a bus window as they fled Macedonia. Honorable mentions in feature photography went to Tony Gutierrez and Beth Keiser.
