Platon is just back from North Carolina, where he was photographing the Ku Klux Klan for a feature on hate bands and hate music for GQ magazine. Apparently, the racist group had emailed the magazine requesting that it not send a black or Jewish photographer. Platon jumped on the chance to do the story,
even after two photographers had declined the job. Once there, the Klansmen grilled Platon about his background. His assistant is Jewish, but they hid that fact from the subjects. At one point, the 30 or so men in the barn where the shoot was taking place got drunk and started kicking Platon and his assistant around. Both photographer and assistant are okay.
