AOL-Time Warner Gets FCC Approval

The merger of America Online and Time Warner cleared its final regulatory hurdle last night, as the Federal Communications Commission approved the deal one year after it was proposed (Bulletin, Jan. 11, 2000). In its approval, the agency imposed conditions related to high-speed Internet access, instant messaging, and broadband cable. Time Warner stock closed yesterday before the news up $4.19 at $71.19; AOL was up $2.34 at $47.23.
