Destiny's Child Sued Over Missed Concert Dates

Two concert promoters have filed a lawsuit against Destiny's Child, alleging breach of contract, general negligence, and unfair business practices, among other claims. The suit, filed last week in Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Los Angeles, follows the Columbia act's failure to perform two make-up shows after it missed a June 16, 2000, date at the Memorial Coliseum in Farmington, N.M. Promoters Cliff Richey and Maricela Delgado claim that under terms of an Aug. 8, 2000, settlement, they paid appearance fees and expenses to Destiny's Child for two make-up shows, one scheduled for Saturday at the original venue and one at an undisclosed Southern California location. The suit says the act failed to appear for the shows. Richey and Delgado seek punitive damages to be determined by the court in excess of $100,000.

Representatives for Destiny's Child, Richey, and Delgado did not return calls.
