The RIAA and Crime Stoppers of Miami-Dade County in Florida will today announce a pilot program to battle sound-recording piracy. The alliance, which is expected to expand nationwide next year, will give citizens the opportunity to report suspected pirate activities to Crime Stoppers by calling a toll-free
number. Tips will be passed to the RIAA, which will deploy its local resources to investigate, assisting law-enforcement officials.
Tipsters will remain anonymous and will be eligible for rewards of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers and up to $10,000 from the RIAA.
