Oscar Fernando Medina Dies In Car Crash

Oscar Fernando Medina, son of Patrulla 81 lead singer José Angel Medina, died Aug. 16 of injuries sustained in a car crash.

The younger Medina, who was 20 years old, was slated to become the newest member of Patrulla 81 in two weeks, and had just received his outfit to wear in his first show with the group.

Patrulla 81 is one of the top selling groups in the duranguense subgenre of regional Mexican music, and won the 2006 regional Mexican airplay song of the year, male group at the Billboard Latin Music Awards for their hit "Eres Divina."

Medina's accident took place in the Mexican state of Durango. Patrulla 81 has suspended all performances for the time being.
