Singapore police seized about 100,000 allegedly pirated music CDs and CD-ROMs and arrested 47 people earlier this week in the country's biggest-ever raid on outdoor night markets. Officers from the police's criminal investigation department estimated the market value of the product at S$1.2 million ($692,000).

The crackdown targeted two syndicates that had been the focus of a surveillance program since last month.

Those arrested in the raids face fines of up to S$100,000 ($57,700) and/or jail time of up to five years. Other local police raids this year have netted a total of S$10 million ($5.7 million) worth of allegedly pirated goods.
