Bebo & Cigala and Alejandro Sanz were the big winners at the Premios Amigo ceremony last night in Madrid.
The duo of Cuban pianist Bebo Valdes, 85, and gypsy flamenco singer Diego El Cigala, 35, won for best Latin group, best new Latin group and best flamenco album
for "Lagrimas Negras" (Calle 54/BMG). In addition, Bebo was named best Latin male artist, and Cigala best new artist.
Sanz was named best artist; he also won best album for "No Es Lo Mismo" (Warner) and best video for the single of the same name.
For the second year, the Premios Amigo, organized by labels' body AFYVE, were held without music or TV coverage, in protest of rampant piracy in Spain. "With last year's sales down 10%, we are in no mood for celebrations," AFYVE president Antonio Guisasola said.
