Universal Studios Home Entertainment's "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" is on its way to being one of the most successful DVD releases of the fourth quarter.

According to the studio, the title sold about 3.7 million combined DVD and VHS units in its first week on sale since

its Dec. 13 street date. Consumers also spent about $65 million on the title in its first six days at retail.

Though the project's sales do not near a first-week sales record?that honor is still held by Pixar/Disney's "Finding Nemo," which sold a combined 8 million units in its first week on sale in November 2003?its reception is a bright spot for DVD retailers this holiday season.

"The 40-Year-Old Virgin" is available in an R-rated and an unrated version. The unrated version features 17 additional minutes of bonus features.
