Country's Wesley Tuttle Dies

California country singer Wesley Tuttle died of heart failure Sept. 29 at a nursing home in Sylmar, Calif. He was 85.

Tuttle began performing professionally at the age of 13, and was among the first country singers signed to Capitol Records. He scored a No. 1 hit in

1945, "With Tears in My Eyes," and made regular chart appearances in the late '40s and early '50s. He helped popularize hard country with appearances on the L.A. TV show "Town Hall Party." Tuttle also appeared in B movie Westerns with labelmates Tex Ritter and Jimmy Wakely. He retired in the mid-'70s.
