Musicland Launches Digital Store
Musicland Group introduced an online digital music download store called GrazeMusic.com. Powered by PassAlong Networks, the store sells songs a la carte for 99 cents each. There is no subscription element to the service.
It does, however, utilize a key feature of the
PassAlong service. Users gain reward points for each track they download, or for any track downloaded by another as a result of their recommendation. These points can then be redeemed for free downloads.
Musicland senior VP of corporate development Rob Willey says the company eventually will merge the PassAlong rewards points system with its in-store Replay rewards membership service, which would allow users to redeem the music points for in-store items.
Musicland will promote the service and sell pre-paid gift cards good for digital purchases both online and on in-store kiosks via its retail locations nationwide.
Musicland stores include Sam Goody, Media Play and Suncoast Motion Picture Company. It oversees close to 900 stores in total.
