The U.K. operations of publishing company Rondor Music are to be folded into Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG). The cost-cutting measure comes three years after Rondor founders Jerry Moss and Herb Alpert sold the company to Universal Music Group for an estimated $400 million (Bulletin, Aug. 3,
2000).
UMG says the move is part of an effort "to maintain the most efficient and competitive company possible."
Talks are ongoing as to whether Rondor's four London staffers will stay in place. U.K. managing director Richard Thomas declined to comment.
Rondor's roster includes Sophie Ellis Bextor, Mark Knopfler, William Orbit, Rod Temperton, Emmylou Harris and Garbage; all will continue to be handled by UMPG.
