A District Court judge in New York has approved the radio license agreement reached in August by BMI and the Radio Music License Committee.

As previously reported, the retroactive agreement covers the 10 years to 2006 and is valued at $1.6 billion (Bulletin, Aug. 1).

The agreement gives commercial radio stations blanket and per-program licenses for BMI repertoire. It includes a separate fee for radio simulcasts over the Internet.

RMLC had initiated a rate proceeding in 1999 in New York Federal Court.

The RMLC is still in talks for licensing with ASCAP; their previous contract expired in 2000.
