Despite a huge fall in the shipment of singles, the U.K. recorded music industry was stable in the second quarter, according to figures from the British Phonographic Industry. The total value of shipments from April-June was £215 million ($343 million), up 0.1% from the same period in 2002.

Album shipments rose 12% during the quarter to 46 million units. Singles, however, plummeted 40.6% to 7.7 million units.

The BPI says "prospects for the third quarter remain upbeat," with a release schedule that includes new albums by Dido and Sting.
