French-Canadian bossa nova duo Bet.e & Stef has split up. The members-singer/percussionist Elizabeth Provencher (Bet.e) and singer/guitarist Stephane Carreau (Stef)-plan to pursue solo careers.
The duo's self-distributed 2000 album "Jazz/Bossa" caused a stir in
the local industry by selling 50,000 units, primarily in Quebec. The Montreal-based act then signed with Universal Jazz & Classics in Canada, which released the album "Day by Day." It has sold 70,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Bet.e & Stef will play farewell shows Sept. 19, 20 and 22 at Montreal's Metropolis club, plus a soon-to-be-announced date in Quebec City.
