BMI and the Radio Music License Committee (RMLC) have reached a new licensing agreement for commercial radio. The last license expired in 1996; the RMLC, which represents more than 5,000 stations, filed a motion in 1999 in New York Federal Court after the parties failed to reach a compromise.

The new contract covers the period from 1997-2006. For 1997-2000, the rate is set at 1.605% of applicable revenue for blanket licenses, or 0.24% per program. After 2001, the rates are based on a "flat fee per year," according to an RMLC spokesman. The new accord also calls for a separate fee for radio stations' simulcasts on the Web.

The RMLC's contract with ASCAP expired in 2000; the parties remain in talks.
