AOL is rolling out the newest version of its software to subscribers this week with a range of music and video features tailored to broadband users. The Web giant is hoping the software will help consumers make the shift to high-speed Internet connections.

Among the

broadband advantages of the new AOL 9.0 are an updated media player that features reduced buffering issues, the ability to scroll through streamed content and a full-screen option for viewing streaming video. In addition, AOL programming and exclusive offerings will appear at the top of the results when searches are conducted for certain artists or entertainment.

AOL has also upgraded functions associated with its Radio@AOL product. The radio feature can now be selected to start up automatically upon launch of the AOL client. Additionally, subscribers can share radio links and proprietary AOL music and video content with other members through the Instant Messenger service, and the company is launching new animated buddy icons to IM users that will eventually feature major-label recording artists.

Current AOL members can download the new software starting this week. Start-up discs will be circulated to potential new customers later this year.
