Popkomm Moving To Berlin
The annual Popkomm music fair will move from Cologne to Berlin starting next year. Cologne has hosted Popkomm since 1990, but has seen attendance suffer in recent years. Last year's event had 14,500 industry visitors, down 14% from 2001. Sources say industry presence at the 2003 fair, set for Aug. 14-16,
will be down as much as 70%. The decision to move Popkomm is believed to be based on a commitment of financial support from the Senate and State of Berlin.
Popkomm has traditionally been organized by MusikKomm, which was recently taken over by Viva Media (Bulletin, Dec. 17, 2002). Viva and trade-fair organizer Messe Berlin GmbH will now work together on the event.
