Authorities in Paraguay seized two containers with 2.3 million blank CD-Rs as they tried to enter the country. The containers, allegedly carrying "general merchandise," were seized by Paraguayan authorities via their Intellectual Property Rights unit.

The IFPI's local antipiracy group helped Paraguayan authorities with the case and has launched a formal investigation into the company that attempted the illegal importation.

Ultimately, the investigation may lead to the revocation of the company's permit to import blank CDrs as well as penalties for tax evasion.

The seizure is part of Paraguay's ongoing programs to combat piracy, in which organized criminal organizations are often involved. Pirated CDs account for most albums sold in the country.
