Orange Range Juice Up MTV Japan Awards
Japanese hip-hop band Orange Range were the big winners at the fourth annual MTV Video Music Awards Japan on May 29. The Sony Records Japan-signed act won in the categories of best video of the year for "Hana", best album of the year for "Musiq" and best buzzAsia - Japan.

Records-signed Ken Hirai won for best male video ("Hitomi wo Tojite") and best video from a film for "Hitomi Wo Tojite" (from the movie "Crying Out of Love in the Center of The World"). Namie Amuro took the awards for best R&B video for "Girl Talk" (Avex) and most impressive performing artist in Asia.
Mariah Carey was on hand to accept the international video icon award, while Ashanti accepted the style award.
The ceremony, hosted by entertainers Takashi Fujii and Megumi, was held at Tokyo's NK Hall. Finalists in each category were selected by MTV Japan viewers and a special selection committee made up of MTV staff. Any Japanese or international artist who released a CD in Japan between March 1, 2004, and Feb. 28, 2005, and also produced a music video was eligible to be nominated.
The show will be broadcast on MTV Japan on June 4, and will be shown on MTV south east Asia, MTV Mandarin and MTV Korea at various dates in June and July. Portions of the show will also be broadcast around the world via MTV's global network.
