Clear Channel Radio (CCR) is creating a 12-person "format liaison team" in order to facilitate relationships with the music industry after the 1,200-station operator severs ties with independent promoters this summer (Bulletin, April 10).

Local program directors will

seek direct contact with labels and artists, CCR says, while the liaisons will deal with labels and artists in their respective formats "who wish to work with multiple [CCR] stations on promotions, marketing initiatives, and groupwide contests." The new team will be made up of current CCR PDs.

In an April 14 memo to CCR employees, CEO John Hogan describes various ways in which the liaison team will assist programmers, including "helping secure artist showcases for CC product seminars and integrating label representatives and artists into meetings themselves." The liaisons, he says, will also be tasked with "working to create goodwill; to tell and sell the truth of CC."
